Genetic and Artificial Insemination Needs for Pork Production

Are you puzzled about today’s pork production? We realize there are many options available for AI in the swine industry; therefore we will provide products and services that exceed your expectations. Our number one concern is the quality of semen delivered to your operation. This begins when the boar is placed in our stud. Boars selected at IBS will always be top indexing in their contemporary group, isolated and tested negative for diseases (including PRRS), and must be structurally sound and correct. IBS's high health status makes us one of only a few AI Studs in North America to ship fresh and frozen semen internationally. Replacements will be brought in at normal intervals to assure there is no "genetic lag" in the quality of the market hogs you produce. While in the IBS arsenal, boars will be collected at standardized intervals including mandatory resting periods to ensure that their semen quality does not suffer from over use.

Our “Quality Semen Assurance Program” gives us the edge over our competition. Other studs have experimented with cheaper and inferior quality standards, but we have maintained the following:

	1)	We feel that a 90-ml. dose with a minimum concentration of 4 billion sperm will provide you with the optimum level for your females.

	2)	All collections are individually examined for abnormal cell counts and acrosomal evaluations are performed, ensuring you an accurate count on the concentration level you receive. The latest equipment provided in our laboratory allows our staff to provide accurate evaluations on individual boars, not only on collection day, but also on days 3, 5 and 7 after collection.

	3)	Our policy has long been to avoid the use of pooled semen for our customers. While other studs commonly use this procedure, we feel it would be an easy way to disguise sub-fertile boars in a stud.

	4)	IBS was the first AI Stud to stop purchasing boars at Swine Shows because of our concerns for your herd’s health.

	5)	We were the first to use PCR to make sure that our semen was free of PRRS.

	6)	Only products that are field-tested have been promoted and sold to you.

	7)	Environmentally safe products are our highest concern.

	8)	We led the industry with the development of Line Semen.
