In these days of high costs and intensification, the commercial pork producer must specialize in the production of pork - "THE OTHER WHITE MEAT". It does not make financial sense for him to attempt to do the initial breeding work when a specialist can do it more efficiently. KERNS FARMS is just such an organization, offering documented production-tested seedstock of known genetic makeup, proven quality, and high health.

Maintaining a quality seedstock herd, with improved generation turnover, requires constant genetic control using the latest computerized animal models, testing, recording, selection, DNA testing and supervision- and possibly a certain flair. All this can be costly, and time and asset consuming when housing, manpower and management efforts could be more profitably concentrated on producing the final product - the pig for slaughter.

The maximum benefits of heterosis can only be achieved by the mating of top quality seedstock of unrelated breeds or lines. KERNS FARMS has developed a program involving generations of controlled matings and the in depth assessment of the resultant progeny. The program is continuous, as are the improvements in our lines. The breeds used in the breeding program have been chosen specifically for their genetic strengths and contributions.
